Hihi | Stitchbird conservation socks
The Institute is thrilled to be running a campaign for the handsome hihi (also known as stitchbird) in the 2025 Bird of the Year competition. Forest & Bird run this annual event to help raise awareness and funds for our favourite native birds. This popular contest helps raise awareness and funds.
As part of our campaign mahi, we have designed these embroidered hihi socks, fitting for a stitchbird!
‘Hihi’ means ray of sunshine, and these endemic birds are a tiny, yet powerful indicator of forest health.
Once widespread throughout New Zealand’s North Island, hihi now face extinction due to habitat loss, introduced predators and disease. It’s thought there are only about 2,000 hihi left, with some estimates coming in much lower.
We will donate $5.00 from every sock purchase back to the Hihi Conservation Charitable Trust (https://givealittle.co.nz/org/hihi-conservation-charitable-trust) to support the recovery of Aotearoa New Zealand's most curious, charismatic & colourful bird.
Embroidered in Aotearoa New Zealand on cozy 37% wool socks.
